Spotlight On: Colin Norris

Connecticut Theatre Company’s “Spotlight On…” series continues with a look into the cast of The Wedding Singer. Get to know Colin Norris who is portraying George in our production!

Introduce yourself to our audience.

Hi! My name is Colin Norris, I’m 21 years old, and I’m playing George in The Wedding Singer. I’ve been performing since I was 3 years old, and theater has always been a huge part of my life. I’ve performed with companies like CDT (“Rocky Horror Picture Show”), Opera House Players (“Newsies”, “Bright Star”, “Shrek”, “Legally Blonde”), and have also choreographed for productions like “Catch Me If You Can” and “Falsettos”. I’m incredibly excited to be making my debut with CTC—this experience has been nothing short of amazing!

What aspects of your character do you find most relatable or challenging to portray?

George is such a fun character—flamboyant, loyal, and unapologetically himself. I relate to his passion and love for performance, and I admire how confidently he lives in his truth. The challenge has been finding the balance between his comedic timing and his heartfelt moments—but it’s been so rewarding to bring that depth to life.

How do you prepare for a performance, both physically and mentally?

Physically, I make sure I’m warmed up and stretched—especially for dance-heavy shows like this one! Mentally, I like to find a quiet spot, breathe, and run through my first few moments on stage in my head. I also take a moment to connect with the cast—it grounds me and gets me excited to perform together.

What Is your favorite moment or song in “The Wedding Singer” and why?

“Come Out of the Dumpster” is such a hilarious and clever moment in the show—it perfectly blends awkward comedy and emotional vulnerability. But honestly, every time we get to do the big ensemble numbers like “Saturday Night in the City” or “It’s Your Wedding Day,” the energy is electric. Those moments are pure fun.

When did you first start performing?

I started performing when I was just 3 years old! I practically grew up on stage, and theater quickly became a second home for me. I’ve been hooked ever since.

What’s the last thing you do before you step out on stage / the curtain goes up?

I always take a deep breath, shake out any nerves, and remind myself to have fun. Sometimes I give a quick high-five or hug to a castmate—it’s like a little boost of energy right before go time.

What’s your favorite 80’s song/band/performer and why?

I’d have to say Prince. His style, his vocals, his stage presence—everything about him was bold and innovative. He wasn’t afraid to be different, and I think that’s really inspiring as a performer.

What do you hope audiences take away from this production of “The Wedding Singer”?

I hope audiences leave feeling joyful and nostalgic—but also reminded of the importance of love, friendship, and staying true to who you are. This show is hilarious and heartfelt, and I hope it gives everyone a little escape and a lot of laughs.
