Connecticut Theatre Company is presenting the dramatic play Shadowlands by William Nicholson from August 25th through September 3rd, 2017. Shadowlands tells the true to life story of the late romance of British writer C.S. Lewis and American poet Joy Davidman. C.S. Lewis, Oxford don and author of The Chronicles of Narnia holds deeply to his convictions about God and His plan for the world until he meets Joy Davidman and her son Douglas. Lewis is then forced to confront his beliefs about love and suffering head on.
Director, Johnny Revicki has put together a cast of nine local actors including: Richard and Nancy Williams of Cheshire, Susan Smith of Middletown, Duane Campbell and Tony Palmieri of New Britain, Jim Lones of Oxford, Sebastian Munera of Hartford, Matthew Lombardo of West Hartford, and Madison Stanchick of Manchester.
Revicki states, “The story, events, and themes of Shadowlands touch me so deeply, speak to my own ideas of love and romance. It’s never perfect, often unexpected, and nearly always has some cost or battle that must be overcome.” The show itself ran in the West End in London, and on Broadway to much critical acclaim. Executive Director, Duane Campbell, who also plays Harry Harrington in the show explained, “It’s one of my favorite plays. It’s one of those shows that every person can relate to. We all find moments in life where we are looking for answers, where we want something to believe in and a way to understand our feelings. Through the relationship of “Jack” and Joy, we find a reflection of our own feelings. It’s immensely beautiful.”
