Spotlight On: Nancy Ferenc

Connecticut Theatre Company’s “Spotlight On…” series continues with a look into the cast of Miracle on 34th Street. Get to know Nancy Ferenc who is in the Ensemble of our production!

Introduce yourself to our audience.
I’m Nancy Squillacote Ferenc, a retired grandmother of six. I have been doing community theatre intermittently since I was 13 years old, the passion just doesn’t go away.
What makes the stage version of Miracle on 34th Street different from the classic film, and what does the live theater format bring to the story?
Watching the 1949 film version had been a holiday tradition while growing up. I still rank it in my three top Christmas favorites. I think the stage version makes it an even better holiday family experience due to the interaction of audience and actors making the spirit of the show come alive.
What was a surprising or unexpected challenge that arose during the rehearsal or performance process?
The show was a bit challenging due to the fact I had multiple characters to portray. No problem with the dialogue or vocal intonation, but with the visual appearance changes that needed to be made, through costume, hair, make up, etc.
What is your favorite Christmas memory, and why?
My favorite Christmas memory is of my father reading the famous 1897 editorial from The Sun, “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus,” to all the grandchildren gathered around the tree.
What do you hope audiences, particularly those who already love the film, will take away from this live production?
After seeing this production of “Miracle On 34th Street”, I hope it touches your hearts and reminds you of the joy in believing and how it can spread love and the much needed kindness to all.
