Spotlight On: Kaylyn Terry
Connecticut Theatre Company’s “Spotlight On…” series continues with a look into our talented cast of The Producers. Get to know Kaylyn Terry who is in the ensemble of our production!
Introduce yourself to our audience.
Hi, I’m Kaylyn Terry. I’m very excited to be in my first CTC production and get back into theater. I have thoroughly missed performing and decided it was finally time to get back into it.
What is the story about , and why do you think it’s important for audiences to see it?
The story is really, in this climate, a political satire, that is important for audiences to see. Not only does it provide comedic relief but it also completes the same job as a dystopian novel or other political satire. It’s also just hysterical because it makes fun of anyone and everyone.
What do you do when you’re not doing theatre?
Outside of theater, I am an insurance defense and personal injury attorney in Hartford. I also enjoy spending time with my friends and watching sports. Go Birds!
What do you find most compelling or interesting about your character?
As the ensemble, I get to play a variety of different characters. I love the ability to play a multitude of people and portray each one differently. My favorite character is playing one of the little old ladies. One second we act like we can’t walk, and the next we’re dancing and jumping around. It’s truly fun to play them.
How is this production bringing something new to this story?
Johanna, our director’s, vision for the show is incredible. The way she has been able to hit every joke with great comedic timing and craft a very extravagant show is something to see. I think everyone’s uniqueness in their characters really brings this story to a new level.
Who in the show is most like their character?
I think Liam Welsh is the most like his character, Carmen. He is so easily able to morph into his character I feel like he embodies the entire character all of the time.
Without giving anything away, what’s your favorite line of dialogue?
“FAT, FAT, FATTY!” or “this man belongs in a STRAIGHT JACKET”
What will the audience be thinking about in the car as they drive home after this show?
I think the audience will still be laughing about the show. It is so silly in the best way where there is not a moment that the audience isn’t laughing.
“The Producers” opens on May 2nd and runs through May 11th at Connecticut Theatre Company. Tickets on sale now!
“For all its daring, Brooks’s show is ultimately a nostalgic throwback to vaudeville and a testament to male friendship.” — The Guardian
“With more belly laughs per minute than any new musical in years, Mel Brooks’ “The Producers” reminds us in grand, politically incorrect style that Broadway never rewards wimps.” — Variety
“It’s the type of musical people say they pray for; a gleeful return to the good old days of undemanding musical comedy with laughs, pretty girls, laughs, a couple of catchy songs, laughs, soon to be legendary performances by some of the best talents of the Broadway stage, laughs, and . . . well . . . lots and lots of laughs.” — Talkin’ Broadway
