Connecticut Community Theatre Premiere – The Color Purple!

Connecticut Theatre Company is proud to present the musical, The Color Purple, based on the Alice Walker novel and the 1985 motion picture of the same name. This production is the community theater premiere of the beautiful musical only recently seen on Broadway or on National Tour. A live band and wonderful local voices will tell the story of Celie, an African American woman living in the South who finds her voice while contending with bigotry and abuse. Cast member Samantha Bass, who plays Shug Avery says, “The Color Purple is demonstrative example of the emotional and spiritual evolution of humans. It asks the ever burning question of Why? Why is there pain, lust, love, hypocrisy, why is there such a thing as hope?” Bass goes on to state, “Get ready to cry, laugh, and shake your button! This cast was baked with love and this is definitely a toe tapping, heartbreaking, and soul shaking kind of show. It would be a shame to miss it!”

Connecticut Theatre Company operates out of the historic Repertory Theatre of New Britain. The theater has recently undergone an expansive renovation and the group now offers table seating as well as standard theater seating. Patrons are welcome to bring their own food and drinks to enjoy before or during the show. President Erin Campbell states, “we are so fortunate to be able to continually improve the facilities at the theatre and enjoy seeing all the friendly faces from the surrounding communities supporting the arts here in New Britain.”

The talented cast includes: Tatyana Rozetta (Ansonia), Joshua Thompson (Berlin), Tonille Watkis and Diwan Keno Glass (Bloomfield), Gia Kulmann (Bristol), Tanairy Barton and Minnett Joy Henry (Hartford), Candace Jelks (Manchester), Lindsay Taylor (Meriden), Michele Marie Clay (Middletown), Samantha Bass and Oliver J. Lester (New Britain), Cecil Carter and James Hampton (New London), Shelby Davis, Zani N. Scott, and Ayanna Scott (Waterbury), Robert J. Williams (Windsor)
