Spotlight On: Michael Robb

Connecticut Theatre Company’s “Spotlight On…” series continues with a look into the cast of The Wedding Singer. Get to know Michael Robb who is portraying Glen Guglia in our production!

Introduce yourself to our audience.

I’m Mike Robb and I play Glen Guglia. I’m a husband to an incredible wife, a father of two fantastic kids, Head of Research at Common Sense Media, and someone who really enjoys doing shows with friends and family.

What aspects of your character do you find most relatable or challenging to portray?

I don’t think I’m a shallow, materialistic, money-grabbing jerk, so Glen is not exactly relatable, but he is a lot of fun to play.

How do you prepare for a performance, both physically and mentally?

There are a few physical warm-ups I like to do before going on stage (my favorite is A-Doo-Dee-Dah). Mentally, I just try to over-rehearse the things I’m most likely to screw up.

What Is your favorite moment or song in “The Wedding Singer” and why?

The song “Right In Front of Your Eyes” has earned the distinction of the song most likely to get stuck in my head. It’s so catchy!

When did you first start performing?

I played Perchik in “Fiddler on the Roof” at a day camp the summer after 5th grade. It was probably a coincidence that they cut Perchik’s song for that particular show.

What’s the last thing you do before you step out on stage / the curtain goes up?

I repeat my first line in my head a few hundred times. I like to think that if I can get the first line right, the rest of my lines will fall like dominoes.

What’s your favorite 80’s song/band/performer and why?

I can’t pick one so I’ll throw out a few that come to mind: “Under Pressure” by Queen, “Take on Me” by A-Ha, and “Welcome to the Jungle” by Guns N’ Roses.

What do you hope audiences take away from this production of “The Wedding Singer”?

It’s such a fun and catchy show. I hope they leave thinking “I’m glad they turned that movie into a musical!”
