Introduce yourself to our audience.

I’m David Nunner, president of Connecticut Theatre Company and I’m excited to be back on the stage for this wonderful show.

What makes the stage version of Miracle on 34th Street different from the classic film, and what does the live theater format bring to the story?

“Miracle On 34th Street” is a timeless story that is sure to touch your heart whether watching one of the film versions or seeing it on stage. There’s something magical though about seeing these characters brought to life in person and being able to observe and react with them throughout the show.

What was a surprising or unexpected challenge that arose during the rehearsal or performance process?

It’s always a challenge bringing well-known characters to life in a new and exciting way.  These are characters that many of us grew up watching, so we want to honor that history but still bring new surprises to our audiences.

What’s your process for memorizing lines?

I like to write my lines down. The process of physically writing out what I need to stay helps to get them into my head.

What’s the most challenging role you’ve ever played and how did you prepare for it?

Bernadette in “Priscilla Queen of the Desert” was one of the most challenging, because it’s a role that meant a lot to me and I wanted to be sure I could bring my best possible performance to the show. I put in countless hours in and outside of rehearsal to develop the character and really felt connected to Bernadette in a beautiful way.

What’s the last thing you do before you step out on stage / the curtain goes up?

Typically I’m out front talking to our wonderful patrons!

What is your favorite Christmas memory, and why?

The holidays hold many wonderful memories, it’s difficult to pick just one.  I’m just grateful for the people in my life that mean so much to me and any time we get to spend together.

What do you hope audiences, particularly those who already love the film, will take away from this live production?

I hope audiences will leave feeling a little lighter and believing just a little bit more. The world can be overwhelming and the holidays can be difficult for many, so any chance to find joy should be taken with enthusiasm.
