Spotlight On: Catie Hahn

Connecticut Theatre Company’s “Spotlight On…” series continues with a look into the cast of The Wedding Singer. Get to know Catie Hah who is in the ensemble of our production!

Introduce yourself to our audience.

My name is Catie. I grew up in southern New Hampshire and moved to Connecticut to attend The Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford, where I ended up meeting my husband. This production marks my return to theater after a long hiatus,
and it’s also my first show with CTC!

What aspects of your character do you find most relatable or challenging to portray?

I’m in the Ensemble, so I play several different characters throughout the show. A common thread among them is their larger-than-life personalities which I find pretty relatable. One thing I’ve never changed about myself is my vivacious personality.

How do you prepare for a performance, both physically and mentally?

I make sure to stay super hydrated, do my tried-and-true vocal warm-ups, and use my steam inhaler as needed. I also review my parts in the show a little each day to avoid any last-minute panic memorizing.

What Is your favorite moment or song in “The Wedding Singer” and why?

My favorite number that I’m in is the opening, It’s Your Wedding Day, because the choreography is so fun! My favorite number that I’m not in is Single because it’s hilarious!

When did you first start performing?

I started taking dance lessons when I was three and performed in every studio recital until I was sixteen. I did my first musical, “The King & I”, and started private voice lessons in 7th grade.

What’s the last thing you do before you step out on stage / the curtain goes up?

I take a deep breath, try not to overthink, and remind myself that I’m a capable human being!

What’s your favorite 80’s song/band/performer and why?

I’ve always loved the band Heart and have memories of listening to them in the car with my mom when I was younger.

What do you hope audiences take away from this production of “The Wedding Singer”?

I hope it gives audiences a good dose of 80s nostalgia mixed with a John-Hughes-boombox-over-the-head happily ever after!
