Spotlight On: Christopher Abreu

Connecticut Theatre Company’s “Spotlight On…” series continues with a look into the cast of Miracle on 34th Street. Get to know Christopher Abreu who is portraying Mr. Bloomingdale/Judge Harper in our production!

Introduce yourself to our audience.

My name is Christopher Abreu, and I play Bloomingdale and Judge Harper in the upcoming “Miracle on 34th Street”.

What makes the stage version of Miracle on 34th Street different from the classic film, and what does the live theater format bring to the story?

The stage version of the story is different in live theater. The pacing is adapted, and there is more of a focus on the dialogue.

What was a surprising or unexpected challenge that arose during the rehearsal or performance process?

This is one of my first experiences in theater a an adult, so I was surprised how much being in character can tire you out when you’re driving home from rehearsal.

What’s the last thing you do before you step out on stage / the curtain goes up?

Before I step on stage, I get myself centered and focus on what my character will be feeling and trying to accomplish in the scenes.

What is your favorite Christmas memory, and why?

I have two young children, so the excitement of going to a tree farm and picking out a tree is my favorite. The hot cocoa and talk of how we will decorate just stirs the Christmas spirit.

What do you hope audiences, particularly those who already love the film, will take away from this live production?

I hope the audience will enjoy our adaptation, and really enjoy what each actor brings to their character.
